“The school was illuminated with earthen lamps by our students. The lights made the place very beautiful. The presence of God was felt in the lit lamps.”
In essence, Karthigai Deepam is a festival of lamps. The light-emitting lamp is seen as a lucky image. It is thought to fend off evil spirits and provide joy and wealth. Many Hindu ceremonies and celebrations require a lit lamp, but the Karthigai Deepam is especially dependent upon it. To make the household happier, lovely lamps can be found all over the place. Indian culture associates spirituality with oil-lit lamps.
We had a Karthigai Deepam celebration at our school. Our students painted a vibrant rangoli on the pulpit to decorate it with many patriotic, scenic, and artistic themes.
Our children used clay lamps to light the school. The setting was stunning thanks to the lighting. God's presence was obvious.
